It's for use with a winder 2 and sequence shooting. It's a straight manual
setting, so that you have to open up about 5 stops over the full-power
manual setting to use it. That's how it is on the 4600; from your
description it's laid out a little differently on the 3500. This a function
you'd probably need the documentation actually to use.

That's a good guess. The Viv flashes usually had some provision for super
wide angles (i.e., > 35mm).

As imtimated, I own a different Viv flash, but the controls are similar, so
I hope I haven't steered you too far off the mark.
