This topic came up a while ago in connection with a discussion about bokeh so
the
list collated the information on how many blades each zuiko has. if you follow

This is mostly just my speculation so take it with a pinch of salt.
I believe the number of aperture blades is a contributing factor in the quality
of
bokeh a lens has. Out - of focus highlights often can be seen to have an
angularity
which corresponds to the shape of the aperture. I believe this also means that
all
out of focus areas, not just the highlights, are shaped by the aperture, it's
just
more obvious with highlights.
So, the more aperture blades a lens has the more nearly circular it is and so
the
less angular shaped will be the out of focus areas. IMO anyway.
Some f2 lenses have 6 blades, some have 8 and some have 9, like the 90mm f2
macro.
