During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Olympus launched an ill-fated
partnership with Hannah Barbera tocapitalize on the success of HB's
comic characters. As a sequel to the successful "Mighty Mouse"
cartoons of the 60s and 70s, they dreamed up "Mighty Cat", a flying,
cape wearing feline superhero. Mighty Cat's alter-ego was that of a
high fashion photographer in Tokyo, who engraved all of his Zuiko
lenses "MC".
Unfortunately, the series failed when villains proved to be able to
still recognize Mighty Cat's alter-ego despite the absence of the
blue tights and cape .
In order to save face, a cover story was concocted about multi-coated
lenses, but serious photographers knew that was just a red herring.
