Jeff,
Depends on how old and whether or not you have access to a good repair shop.
Some folks can fix items like this well, others cobble them up.
I've had $500 lenses fixed for $10, other times they've ended up in the
trash.
I have a Vivitar 90 2.5 macro that one shop told me could not be repaired at
any cost. I held on to the lens for ~ 5 years. I then moved and found a
shop (owner is ~ 80 years old). Took him my 90 macro on a hunch and he
repaired it for $10.
Same thing with a Tokina 80-200 2.8, $10.
Seriously, if there's no one around you to work with and you don't want to
send it to Sigma, I'd be happy to take it to the shop I use. Just hope
the guy doesn't kick the bucket! He's a little flaky on being open, kinda
does what he wants when he wants, but good work.

Subject: [OM] Lens Fixing"s?
I have a nice sigma, MC 35-70 lens. But it doesnt seem to focus right..what
kind of repairs, if any can be done to correct the focusing mechanism..or
would it be cheaper just to buy a new lens? Any advice appreciated.
