A strong s*ubscription base is much more attractive to advertisers than a
strong newstand sell-through. It shows them that you can deliver a high
quality, targeted readership that is more likely to spend $$$. Also the
distributors to the newstands take a huge #%@*! commission from the
publisher. Many mags withold shipping of issues to stores for a while so
s*ubscrib*ers get their copies first (not always possilbe though).
