Alkalines won't completely solve the problem, even with diodes; neither
will Wein cells or hearing-aid batts (1.35v) as the voltage drop is not
uniform. IOW, as the batt ages, your meter will be off by different
percentages. The best (and cheapest solution) is to contact Gary Schloss
(mailto:schloss@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx) and buy an Hg cell, fresh and sealed. You
certainly don't want the meter to go wack on a once-in-a-lifetime trip. It
is also prudent to get the 1 CLA-ed if it's your main camera.
