Charles I found your answer among the other messages that I've saved from the
list,
and although a few months old now I suddenly felt it needed a reply.
You say the IS series is not based on a Maitani design. Well, I'm not sure it
isn't,
because I opened The Unofficial Yoshihisa Maitani & Olympus Cameras Homepage
the other
day, and there on this page http://members.xoom.com/maitani_fan/home.html is
says:
-quote-
"Mr Yoshihisa Maitani joined Olympus Optical Co Ltd in 1956. He was the chief
camera
designer and managing director of Olympus Optical Co Ltd. He developed a number
of
legendary cameras during his career. These include the Pen series, the OM
series, the
XA series, the IS series and the [mju:] series of cameras."
-unquote-
Well, what shall we believe? Is the IS series a Maitani design, or isn't it?
