True story:
There is a program that does exactly this supplied with IBM's MVS mainframe
operating system. (It's used to take advantage of some useful side effects.)
There was a bug report submitted against it, accepted by IBM, and for which
a patch was issued: it didn't tell MVS that it had successfully done
nothing. It grew from one machine instruction to two.
