From: Gary Edwards <edwardsg@xxxxxxxxx>
A while back, I wired up an SPST momentary switch to a pigtail with
a household
plug and a miniature phono plug to the other sex household plug...
!!!
... One
of the amateur rocketeers failed to understand the basic
longitudinal stability
requirements for free rockets. His did three complete loops before it hit the
ground...
That's nothing compared to the excitement you'd generate if you (or
more likely, some innocent bystander) plugged your Winder or switch
into 117VAC:
"One of the amateur electricians failed to understand why there are
different, non-mating plugs on different things. He did three
complete loops before he hit the ground..." :-)
PLEASE, FOLKS! What Gary did was illustrative, BUT DANGEROUS! For
much less the cost of a 50 foot electrical extension cord, you can
buy 100 feet of speaker wire and the PROPER connectors (3/32" phone
plug and jack) at Radio Shack!
As to the Winder and switches, you should be able to use well over
100 feet of wire of almost any size, as the Winder only requires a
few milliamps of current to trip -- the motor current does not flow
through the switch; the switch only controls a solid-state switch
(probably an FET) in the winder.
