And what if GIB decides to
activate the command ejection system (Italians being excitable at times -
well isn't anyone excitable if they're inverted unexpectedly)?
In that case, do what a civilian photographer did in the back seat of a USMC
Phantom some years back. He requested a canopy-to-canopy roll with the
wingman. Pilot cut a little too close and clipped the other F-4.
Martin-Baker got four nice thank you letters. On the way out the
photographer squeezed the motor drive button on his N*k*n. Unfortunatly, he
lost his grip later in the ensuing excitement. The camera was found by
hikers two years later with the film compartment intact but two summers of
southern California desert heat destroyed the film. Just keep a better grip
on your OM-1N.
Speaking of unexpected inversions: my first ride in a bizjet was a
maintaince check flight in a Sabreliner 60 many years ago. After we
confirmed the door seals did, the captain, a former B-47/B-58 pilot, made a
two steep turns while I and another pilot stood in the aisle peering through
the cockpit door. I didn't realize that they were clearing turns. Next thing
I knew I was still standing on the floor but the horizon was rotating
quickly one way. We were back wings level before I recognized a barrel
roll. The guy was SMOOTH. Wish I had a picture of my face then.
