I recommend the Eco charger from Saitek. It charges NiCd or Alkaline
batteries individually. I have no pecuniary interest - I bought one 7
months ago from Batteries Plus here in Ottawa, & I love it.
Features:
- charges 1-4 AAA-D batteries individually
- NiMh/NiCd or Alkaline
- displays estimate of time to finish recharging for each battery
- whines very annoyingly if it discovers a battery without any hope
- capacity estimates, at least for alkalines needing charging
- "microchip" control
- ~50 US$
Disadvantages
- rather bulky
- only 4 batteries at once
- no button batteries or 9v
They have a new "Smart Charger" out for $80 US which recognizes battery
types..
