Focus is more critical with telephotos but then some lens are made to focus
past infinity to account for small changes in the length of the lens due to
expansion by heating up. So it is not possible to just rack out the lens to
infinity focus and assume that the lens is focused at infinity. The best way
is to check the focusing accuracy with a large aperture lens taking the photo
of a ruler or of a newpaper placed on a table at an angle. Focus on a
specific object, line or inch marker. If you focus is correct then no
problem. If your focus is off, then you won't know if it is the focusing
screen or mirror adjustment.
