Hello dear OM-lovers, I'm new here, but I follow your discussions with
interest and it helped me a lot. A few day ago I read a thread on the
heat-resistance of the OM4Ti. Well, I own mine for many years now, (12? 15?)
and I took it to many parts of this beautiful world. Without any service or
even serious cleaning it survived: intense cold on high passes in Tibet,
dusty plains in the west of China and in the Middle East, intense heat in
many places (you can imagine, let me name a few: Turpan, Death Valley..
enough?), sprays of seawater on the Galapagos, damp air and rain in tropical
forests. I dropped it (not on purpose, I love my camera!!!) from a driving
truck! "No pictures, this year," I thought, and that was eight years ago.
This time I hope to take my darling to Iceland....
So for anybody who fears that this camera is not heat-proof, I can honestly
and sincerily declare that it is! That does not mean that I don't take
complaints of strange OM-behaviour seriously.... Maybe the are like people.
Talking about servicing camera's yourself. I wouldn't do it, unless... I
serviced a lens, though... It was the famous zuiko 28/2,8. I took it apart,
because the internal parts got "lazy".... Probably dust. Opening was no
difficult (I am a complete beginner :-) , I did it because I have two of
these babies...), closing was a problem. You had these springs flying
everywere.... But I succeeded in cleaning and even decent reassembling, and
of course I'm proud. I left one little spring, but that was not too serious.
The lens works like new, again.... Now I'm thinking of starting my own
little service-business :-)))
Many greetings to all wonderful Olympus-people!
