And how about photographic paper? In my city several labs overs to
output digital files on conventional paper for a relativ low price. I´m
not sure inkjets or dysubs with there expensive inks, dyes and paper can
challenge there prices.
Additionaly there are "hybrid" minilabs which accept eiter negatives,
slides or digital files to print images, several will be installed soon
(I have seen labs from Konica, Fuji and Agfa).

One thing which discern pro from amateur stuff is control,I had quite a
lot of problem to adjust desktop color printer in a way to produce
predictable results. Normal drivers are not made to be calibrated by the
user, but to be "smarter" than the user, using integrated color
balancing and "enhancing" schemes, more designed to render "vivid" than
original colors.

Isn´t the Alps one of the few printers able to print on plain and stiff
materials, like CDRs?
