Never mind, I already figured it out. I had the courage to remove the OM-4
bottom plate, and noticed how the mechanism works. The rotaring lever makes the
closing
plate of this blind hole rotate away, making room for the rising stift to
directly enter the film cannister. This operation also made me aware that the
rewind lever can be pushed further towards the camera than I did earlier, beyond
some sort of safety position, I guess. So I retried the MD operation, and
rewinding works ok.
For my other question I found the Camera Repair Resource Guide on Lee's site,
describing how to replace the Ni-Cd battery by another one or an Ni-Mh pack.
Only question remains: where to get another Ni-Cd (or Ni-Mh) battery: Oly or a
cheaper and faster delivering source?
