I received my copy of Photo Techniques last night, and immediately read
the article on the best-kept secret. The author was Douglas Dubler, a
professional fashion and studio photographer. Not only does he love the
OM system, and has bought some OM equip for his 'personal' (maybe not
professional) use, but the first 2 paragraphs wax enthusiastic about the
IS-3, whose lens he says is as good as any of his Nikkors. Except for
the slow speed of the lens, which is what drove him to OM. He then
mentions several Zuikos which he bought or were lent to him which he
says are better than any competing lenses, they are: 35-80/2.8; 100/2;
18/3.5 and 180/2 (Uh-OH, I don't have any of these, ... )
I'm not going to recount the whole article here, but I will say that it
was a **great** ego-booster for me as an OM user. I would highly
recommend that folks get this magazine (it's a 'real' photo mag on it's
own merits) and read this article.
George
PS: As for Wayne's question, my guess is up, up, up.
On a related note, I recently did a 'Doris' and got up early to head to
a 5-block garage sale. Unfortunately, no OM, but I did find an old
Minolta SRT-101 plus 4 lenses and got it all for $100. I put the camera
and the 58/1.4 lens up on eBay and found there is almost NO market for
this OM-1 era Minolta equip. One of the lenses is a practically mint
condition 35/1.8 which I was sure I could get $150 or more for alone.
Well I based this, wrongly, on the going rate of the slower Zuiko 35/2.
I got only $80 for the lens. At least it looks like I may make some
profit on my $100.
