I just estimate the effective f stop (light loss due to extension), and use
the flash on manual held the appropriate distance from the subject. OK so
far, but I need to do more work. John Shaw mentions it in Close ups in
nature and Field techniques guide.

I use a T-32 on a TTL extension cord (I like the viewfinder LED)

I'm an OM-1n man myself.
