Well, woke up today bright and cheery at 7.30. Much to my intense joy,
there was NO smog/haze outside (living in the valley in Southern
California, life is smog). Even around 4.30pm there was none. I decided
that I would take a shot at getting ADITL photos (my first attempt).
Waited nervously till 6.30 for the right light, and then set off
immediately and in a big rush to a nearby Xmas tree farm--one side of the
plot was all dead and brown, the adjacent one was lush and green, which
was what I wanted to capture. Still too much light (looking right into
the low sun). Quick drive to Redlands municipal airport.
On the way there, saw dead tree (lightening struck, looked like) in a
field. Parked side of road, and carefully made way thru field getting sand
in my sandals and prickly crap all over my jeans. Shot is silhutted
against blue dusk sky with gibbous moon at top.
Back to airport.
Got an ancient Mig jet (one of the first jet models!). Met a chap who later
encountered me at Market Night (read on). Back to Xmas tree farm.
In the twilight; this is where the OM1ns
B=2sec setting came in quite handy. Then off to Market Night (a Redlands
tradition every Thursday from 6 to 9 (9.30 in summer)) where downtown is
cut off from traffic people set up stalls for arts/crafts, foods, fresh
produce, live music, rides/clowns/face painting for the kiddies, and other
interesting stuff. I must say, that my brother came in VERY handy as an
assistant; he was bugging/begging me to take him, which I didn't want, but
he was quite handy <G> Lots of goodies there to photo--available light
stuff thanks to tripod. I pray that they'll come out; I went by the meter,
often showing 1sec-1/15 @ f:5.6-8 on 400ASA.
Met same chap from flying school. Told me to come tomorrow morn at 9;
he'll get me on the field and I can shoot to my heart's desire!
Now I can't decide which one to submit...once I get the prints back, I'll
have to solicit some help; if I can't decide on one photo, I'll just scan
them all onto my site and not enter the contest.
