I had a similar dialogue with the local quick shop when I asked if
they could push my Tri-X at their 'send off lab' (I like the look of
Tri-X pushed two stops).
"You mean rush service? We can get it to you in an hour, sometimes
quicker if you'll check."
"No, that wasn't what I meant. I meant push processing - what you do
when you shoot ASA 400 film at 800 or 1600."
"I wouldn't think that would make very good pictures. Besides, your
camera automatically adjusts to the film."
"Could you please just call the lab and find out if they'll push
process, and what the fee is?"
She goes to the phone: "There's some guy here who thinks he messed up
his film and wants to know if you can rush it".....
