Hi Jeff,
You didn't say what type of lugging you would be doing.
Mountain climbing? Driving? Biking?
If you have till Saturday only, stay with the tripod.
You need to answer your own questions with trial and error.
A photo trip is no time to be leaving behind the tried and true for
the mysterious and new.
Maybe you could use the tripod folded up once in a while
and get the feel of a monopod that way.
Then when you get back, play with the monopod idea.
I have found that a quick release does not help me much.
The camera is on the monopod most of the time anyway.
It is easy to carry it that way and with the leg retracted
grab shots are possible. What do you do with the pod when
you take the camera off? Hold it under your arm or put it
down and leave it somewhere?
Just some thoughts.
Charlie L.
