Jan Steinman summarised the chip tield issues rather well for prospects of
low cost 24x36mm ccd sensors.
I tend to agree with his hopes for CMOS chips replacing the CCD's
(most commonly used now) and in fact more low end cameras are starting to
appear with these already.
On a more positive note there is some precedent for large area
devices with higher yields : the active matrix LCD displays.
Does anybody know if the coverage of the very expensive Kodak CCD
backs for the Nikon 35mm cameras from a few years back was a full 24x36?
