I have wanted to be able to do panoramics by pivoting my OM-4 with either a
standard lens or a wide-angle and then "knitting" the prints together.
Note this is not the same as a true panoramic camera which rotates the lens
with respect to the film plane. The lens and film plane maintain the same
relative position and both must rotate together.
As I understand it, the pivot axis needs to be through the center of the
"entrance pupil" of the lens. The "entrance pupil" is defined as the
*virtual* image of the aperture as seen through the front of the lens. If
I have interpreted this correctly, the *virtual* image of the aperture is
*not* necessarily (or likely) in the same location as the actual lens
diaphragm.
This would require building a platform for the tripod that would allow
moving the camera body around to align the axis through the lens entrance
pupil over the tripod's pivot axis. The problem is how to determine where
the *virtual* image of the lens aperture is located, either in relation to
the lens mounting flange on the body, the front ring on the lens, or some
other *easily* measured point on the body or lens.
1. Is the data on this known and printed/published somewhere for the Zuiko
lenses?
2. If not, is there some *easy* method to measure with some precision
where the virtual image of the aperture is for a particular lens?
