Looking through the manual lenses section of the Jessops photographic
catalogue, I am amazed to see that the new price of an Olympus 50mm f1.8 is
an incredible 230 UKP! That's 10 UKP more than a Contax CZ Planar f1.7, and
almost three times that of a Minolta f1.7. With the Nikon 50mm f1.8 Nikkor A
at a mere 125 (no Canon equivalent listed) the Oly is the most expensive
standard lens they sell! With a second hand value of around ten percent of
that, it depreciates faster than the Euro.
Could it be a misprint? If not, it shows what bargains the used ones are.
Perhaps as a group we should buy them all up to create a demand and raise
their value - matching pairs for binocular loupes and stereo viewers; put
them into Leica R mounts and advertise them as Japanese Zummuikos; or build
a collection of one of each variant (how many did we say there were?)
