Dear OM2+ers,
I just got a tool catalog in the mail offering Varta
silver oxide 357 and 303 batteries for 65cents and 66cents respectively. The
catalog did not specify any minimum quantity so I called up the 800 number
and was told that there was no minimum number and no minimum charge (although
shipping might make single cells expensive?) I have never purchased anything
from the company so I have no recommendation but the prices are quite good:
Fry's electronics locally generally has pretty competitive prices and their
303's and 357's from EverReady and Duracell retail for $1.25 and the '76
cells for about $2.25. Unlike Duracell and EverReady the Varta 357's and
303's are slightly different in rated capacity so they actually seem to be
different cells. The 303's are rated at 170mAH (about the same as the other
vendors) while the 357 is rated a little lower at 155mAH. Varta's website
(http://www.varta.com/) did not give any other differences between cells but
sometimes differences are related to specified test conditions rather than
actual performance difference. Given the capacity difference the 303 looks a
better deal.
The company is called Future Active out of Bolton MA and the 800 number is
800 655 0006.
If anybody has dealt with them, it would be interesting to hear your good or
bad experiences?
Tim Hughes
