Since a certain list member and repair guru (not to mention any
names) has my 4T, I've been using my OM-10 lately and took the time
to go back through the manual and see what I'd forgotten in the 20
years since I first got the OM bug.
According to the manual, if you take a picture while the camera is
off, it "wakes up", calibrates proper exposure, takes the shot, and
promptly goes back to sleep. On the other hand, if you leave the
switch on, the camera goes into standby mode, not displaying exposure
information in the viewfinder, but taking properly exposed pictures
when called upon.
My question is: Assuming you are relying on the camera's center
weighted metering for exposure, and not making any adjustments or
compensations, does it matter whether you leave the camera switched
on or off?
