You may not be able to do Yosemite justice on a day trip, but we make sure
we do it every time we visit SF. Leave real early in the morning and return
real late at night. Without question, it is worth it. See the waterfalls in
the main valley, the Mariposa Grove, and the senic overlook of the entire
valley (on the way to the Mariposa Grove).

 Advice?

Just watch out for that Lonesome Pine (or is it Cypress), don't get caught
taking a picture of it -- it is a copyrighted image :-). And they WILL
take your film away (at least they did at one time).

Sounds like Chris works for SCO -- trust me, there is norhing around the
SCO HQ in Monterey. Might as well spend all your spare time taking
pictures.

Somebody else mentioned Yosemite, although it is a beautiful place to
take pictures, I don't think Chris will have time to go all the way there.
To do Yosemite justice will take at least 2 days, and with only one week
here, and 3 days are spent at the conference, not much time is left. So
I agree with George to stay close to the coast, there are lots of places
to take pictures here, not to mention the sunset possibilities.

And even though Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco is a tourist trap,
some great pictures can be taken there, especially at dawn, dusk or night.
It all depends on what Chris is after; and there is nothing wrong with
wanting to be a tourist sometimes. Chris may WANT to take pictures of
all the toruisty places -- cable cars, Golden Gate bridge, Chinatown, etc.
Or they may enjoy taking pictures of the natural wonders of California.

As for buying film, it is readily available here. You can buy it in any
super market or drug store. So unless you plan to use a LOT of film or
you need some special type, I'd say spend the money and buy it here
(besides, the California economy can always use some infusion of foreign
money :-)).
