Subject: [OM] Mercury Battery Option
Dear Zuikoholics,
For those of us with environmentally challenged (OM-1) cameras, I just
realized there's an excellent short-term alternative to high-priced internet
vendors (list members excluded) or power conversions - buy little Coleman
key-chain lanterns, they're powered by 625 mercury batteries!
When I got my OM-1, I quickly realized I needed to pack away some spare
batteries, given the situation. I bought a pair on the internet, and the day
they arrived, I found the spares that came with a couple of mini-lanterns I
got my kids for Christmas a couple of years ago. Sure enough, they were the
same 625 mercury cells!
Well . . . last night, browsing through our local Dick's Sporting Goods, I
noticed they were selling a similar Coleman lantern, still powered by a 625,
for all of $2. Caution caused me to get only one, just to be sure, and this
package didn't include a spare, so there's only one battery. I can't vouch
for their age or condition (this one worked), but you can't beat the price!
Just give me a chance to buy a couple more before you clean them out!
Frank
