To Gary Reese:
{Now, can anyone tell me what the function is for the two position lever
on the pentaprism side of the ISO speed dial on the OM-3 (not 3Ti - in
which it selects flash mode)?}
That lever is to turn the beep sound on & off for the battery check.
Forward is beep off. Normal beep on. I guess there are times when
the beep is not a good idea. The red led on the body works if the
battery is good (regardless of the beep).
Self timer on OM3? The OM3 is a purely mechanical shutter mechanism and
Olympus had been going to electronic shutters coupled to self timers.
The OM3 has probably the most reliable of mechanical shutters of any
35mm I have come accross. There are many ways of timing the camera
thru things connected to winder 2's and intervalopers ect.
As far as mirror lock-up, I think it is not neccessary because this is
one smooth mechanism. My OM3 probably has less mirror vibration than
almost any pentaprism camera. I think that is why they are sought after
in todays electronic everything world. I'm sure thats why Olympus
re-introduced this camera. Btw, I purchased a "9" OM3 from a camera
store in 1992 for about $140.00. They thought it was the cheap ass
model with out the optional self-timer & electronic & auto modes. Too
bad most stores now realize their value. ( I went in there to buy a used
OM1 for another back-up.)
