I don't have an OM2. But on the OM4 I had the other problem: Wear of the
grooves in the shutter speed ring. At the OM4 you're right. There is a
ball with an blade-spring. Just remember the position of the ring, loose
the screws, bend the spring a little bitt an throw all together. Thats
was it at my OM4.

I would bet the mechanism is similar.
When I am in a real good mood and sober,
I will most likely try to fix it.
Do you mean the wear was making the movement loose?
That would be a great possibility on a 20 year old camera. (OM2)
