Although I don't use the IS/L line of Olympus cameras, I have become interested
in front-mounted teleconverters as you know from a thread on the B300. I
checked the Japanese version html for the L-30, the only converter they mention
is the C180 1.7x converter. I also have a Japanese brochure of the L-30 which
mentions the C180.

I was not aware of two new converters. I should mention this, however. Kenko
and Raynox have been making and selling front-mounting tele/wide/macro
converters. For example, Kenko has a 2x teleconverter with a mount diameter of
52mm which can be used on the IS-300/IS-30/L-30 (so confusing, isn't it?). The
converters by these companies have been developed for video cameras for the most
part.

Those of you who have a June catalog of B&H (these may be on their Web site),
look at p.13 and p.99. Granted that these are digital and video camera
conversion lenses, I would think that some of them are adaptable to OM Zuiko
lenses or for that matter to the front of the zoom lenses in the IS/L series
cameras.

In Japan Kenko has a 1.4x teleconverter with a mount diameter of 52mm. Unlike
the Olympus versions, some of these converters have front filter threads.

I have studied this since I debated whether I should buy one of these first, but
I decided on the Olympus B300 because this comes in the mount diameter of 55mm
and my ultimate interest is in possibly adapting the B300 to a medium-format
lens.
I should also mention that there are converters of larger mount diameters than
55mm.
On p. 97 of the B&H June catalog, the 2.0X teleconverter by Century Precision
Optics has a price tag of $719.95. The mount diameter is 58mm.
