You didn't say what sort of pictures you're taking. I'll bet they're flash
shots. If the synch is off, the flash will fire late, shortly after the second
shutter curtain has started moving.
There is also the possibility that the second curtain is sometimes not
"returning" completely when you cock the shutter.
Instead of theorizing about this (like a bunch of Greeks), why don't you open
the back of the camera and SEE what happens when you release the shutter?
