If you have a good local repair shop that does the work on-site, try them.
Many shops now just handle the shipping and receiving of repair orders,
choosing to farm out all the actual work.
I had a Tokina 80-200 zoom repair done by these folks. They did a good job
(under warranty repair) and I had the lens back in just over three weeks.
No special handling or rush service fees. However, there was one minor
bump - they lost track of where my package was. When I called to make sure
it had arrived, they had no idea what I was talking about. Fortunately, I
sent it UPS and tracked the delivery all the way on the web. I told them it
had arrived at what date and time and who signed for it. It was located,
placed on the wrong shelf, and promptly fixed and returned.
Pack it well, send it by the traceable means of your choice and enclose
explicit instructions, including all means of contacting you.
