I believe the 90-180 Ser I Vivitar did just that. I have a friend
that has 2 of them (Canon mt, dang it!) and they are extraordinarily
sharp and flat-field for a zoom. Also extraordinary size-wise, about the
size of my 300/4.0 Nikkor, much heavier, and worth every bit of trouble
from the images I have seen.
