Hi Zuikoholics:
I've posted new lens tests at:
http://members.aol.com/olympusom/lenstests/default.htm
They include:
400mm f/6.3 MC Zuiko
400mm f/5.6 Noflexar
600mm f/8 Noflexar
85-250mm f/5 MC Zuiko at 180mm
Plus another Canon FD lens for comparisons:
50mm f/3.5 Macro S.S.C.
For hairsplitters, it appears the 50mm f/3.5 Canon FD falls between the 50mm
f/3.5 Zuiko and 50mm f/2 Zuiko in image quality, but it had a remarkable
amount of distortion for a macro.
The standout in the super telephoto ranks: the 400mm f/5.6 Noflexar for the
Novoflex System. Wow, what a field lens with its trigger focusing, but
tripod mounting the thing is awful! I had to mount the camera upside down to
use the bellows tripod screw, since the grip tripod screw invites instability.
Plus, in answer to popular demand, I did the 180mm setting on the 85-250mm
f/5 MC Zuiko. I'd say it is a dead heat with the 65-200mm f/4 at its 200mm
setting. It's going to be interesting to see what it'll do again the 50-250
@ 180mm.
Confirmed tests for the upcoming week:
50-250mm f/5
21mm f/2
40mm f/2
400mm f/6.3 with 1.4X
180mm f/2.8 w/ 1.4X
