He has invented some software to make rectilinear images out of fisheyes, and
is involved in making virtual reality images out of 180 degree fisheyes. It
makes a lot of sense if you think about it (as you obviously have). You just
shoot a grid pattern with your lens and then use that to straighten out your
photo.
