I think that the real point that most everybody is making is that they
are better than nothing for close-ups. But, their performance is on a
par with their cost. This, as in many other situations, is a
demonstration of the general rule of "There ain't no free lunch" or you
can't get something for nothing. Once in a while recently, in modern
technology, it does seem that there are exceptions to this rule and that
is why it is a general rule. Most often, there wouldn't be an expensive
approach if the inexpensive approach worked as well.
