The collectability aura that Olympus is fostering by overpricing it. IMHO,
the current high pricing on the system is a way to make the OM System gather
the attention of speculators and turn it into a collectable. Olympus
prestige would benefit in the long-term by another camera system [like the
Pen] that has collectability status. Olympus knows how to feed collector
demand, as witnessed by the O Product.
Some would argue that the OM System is far from a "collectable." When one
looks at the value of Olympus ephemera, esp. literature, it shows the
beginnings of collectability. Furthermore, the comparative component values
between it and equally aged Pentax, Minolta and Canon systems are higher.
Nikon F outpaces it, though, with some components that are quite high in
value!
