The OM2sp, OM3 and OM4,4T all use the outer diameter of the microprism
as the definition of the spot metering area. According to Shipman's
book this is approximately 2 percent of the total image area.
Intuitively, I thought it would measure much larger than that. I
measured one of the large viewfinder diagrams in the book (probably not
done accurately to scale) and found that the drawing shows about 4%. We
also have to remember that the image area is a little larger than what
we see in the screen. I think my intuition was wrong. Certainly it's
closer to 2 percent than the 8.5 percent you noted for the Canon.

Subject: [OM] OM2s - What percentage is the spot?
Does anybody know what the percentage of the image that is measured what
using spot on a OM2 Spot/Program. I have the default screen which has
two
concentric circles - does the outer or inner circle equate to the area
being
metered from or is it the inner one.
