I did a similar thing last fall -- a few more goodies for my OM system
pushed me over the old camera bag limit. I pondered the "question of
gear", the notion of how I could actually carry stuff, or not, depending
on the situation. My conclusion was to go the multi-bag route. Basically,
if I'm on foot, I want something I can carry all-day, maybe up hills or
through the woods. If I'm in that magic zone-of-influence of the
Explorer, multiple bags isn't really a down.
So I got a LowePro TrimTrekker. This one is built like a "vertical"
camera bag, fairly moderate sized (two bodies and up to ten lenses,
depending on the size). However, you can make the normal camera bag strap
vanish, replaced by full fledged backpack straps.

The best prices I found were on the net at Camera World of Oregon (see
http://www.cameraworld.com). But they didn't have what I wanted in stock,
and after a few months of backorder, I cancelled and bought the bag at
B&H for about $20 more. I think CWO (they may be called Camerworld.com
now, officially) is a medium-sized camera store using the net to leverage
themselves into being one of the gigantic stores, and to get there, they
have great prices. B&H, of course, is about as big as they get, for
real, with prices varying from "ok" to "not-so-ok", but they nearly always
have what you want in stock.
