[OM] Cleaning an OM300/4.5 lens

Hi again all,

After 6 weeks of absence from the list whilst working/travelling in Peru
respectively Venezuela, I am back in Amsterdam (at least for the time
being).

A few weeks ago Brian Huber helped me to obtain a Zuiko 300/4.5 mm lens for
a very low price, however, he informed me the lens has a tiny bit of fungus
on the second element from the front (the lens is at my parents' house, and
I will see it tonight for the first time - exciting!).

I remember that around the time I set sail to Peru there was some thread
going on about cleaning a 300 mm lens.

My questions now are:
-Can anyone tell me if a little bit of fungus on the 2nd element will
negatively influence picture quality?
-Is it easy to clean such a lens myself (mind you: I've never taken a lens
apart so far) or should I have it done by a professional?
-Brian thought that John Hermanson said that Olympus techs use Ponds cold
cream to treat fungus, any word on that?
-Will the tiny bit of fungus easily be transformed into a major infestation
if it is left untreated (typical Dutch climate: cold and rainy)?
-Does anyone still have the messages (either in message form or digest
format) regarding the previous thread about how to clean that lens?

If anyone can help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated!

Ah, I can't wait until I get to shoot some film using that lens, it looks
like finally nature fotography has become a reality for me :)

Cheers and hope to read many informative messages on the list.
Olaf
