Hi all,
After being off this list for about 1.5 year,
finally I have some time to participate.
(OK, you are right: I just have some questions,
that's why I drop in...)
First some questions and then a few reactions on
several topics passing by last weeks.
On April 1st I will visit San Francisco and I was
wondering if there are any interesting Oly-selling
shops which I should visit. What is the current
price of an OM-4ti in the US? And of an OM-3ti?
About the OM-3ti: is its battery consuming behaviour
simular to the OM-4 (= eye-brow raising)?
On reason why I am thinking of buying an OM-3ti is that
my OM-1 is using the same battery for over a decade
while my OM-40/PC and late OM-4 are using batteries
in unpleasant amounts.
A touristic question: did any of you visit Yosemite
recently? What is the condition of the roads between
Mono Lake and the Tioga pass?
A week ago the 35-70/3.5-4.5 was discussed here.
I once compared this lens with the 35/2 by inspecting
some Kodachrome 25 slides projected with a Leica
Colorplan 90/2.5 (subject: contrasty bookshelfs at a
distance of 1.5 m). Both lenses have to be stopped down
to 5.6 before the corners reach the resolution of the
film. The zoom at 35/3.5 performs visually simular to
the 35/2 stopped down to 2.8-4 (yep, in between).
So, the zoom seems to have a quality comparable to the
35/2. The only noticable diverence is that the 35/2
is more 'wide angle' than the zoom (I remember reading
somewhere that the zoom is actually a 36-69 mm zoom).
BTW about kodachromes: I always get excellent exposed
pictures with kodachrome film (25/64/200) using an
OM-40 or OM-4, which supports the hypothesis once
mentioned that kodachrome film was used as a standard
for the film reflectance.
Last topic of this mail: focussing screens.
I recently brought a 1-6 (all clear, with microprisms
in the center, designed for telephoto lenses).
It is more usefull then I expected: it can be used even
with a 35/2 (but not with less bright lenses < 70 mm),
works excellent with the 50/3.5 at macro distances, and
an constant correction of 1/2 stop for the OM-1
is applicable. I was wondering if the same holds for the
2-13 screen: can you use a simple correction for the
exposure? (I suppose the answer is yes)
OK, enough so far.
This long mail compansates for 1.5 year silence...
I hope to join the next discussions a little bit sooner
than 2001...
Bye
