Hello Olympians,
a sad news, Andreas Feiniger is dead. He died last thursday.
Andreas Feiniger, Life magazin photographer, gained popularity in
Germany through his books on photographing. There was an exibition of
his works in Frankfurt and Berlin last year.
A. Feininger was born 1906 in Paris as son of the famous painter Lionel
Feininger, he studied on the "Bauhaus" in Weimar and worked as an
architect. In the 20´s he started photographing and had his first
publication in 1930. Later he worked for Le Corbusier and established
his own bussines in Stockholm. In 1939 he emigrated to New York and
started to work for Life magazin in 1941 until 1962.
(Biographic details acording to "Photographie des 20 Jahrhunderts,
Museum Ludwig Köln, Taschen Verlag)
I liked most his impressive tele shoots, he did in New York. Examples
are the "United States" in front of the NY skyline and "canyon made of
buildings" (sorry but I don´t know the original title).
Regards
Richard
