Two ways.
1.- If you own Leica, and can hoof the outrageous price for the
swing-away polarizer, you can wysiwyg.
2.- Otherwise, you will note most (all?) polarizers have a dot
on the perimeter. In the ones I own, if you align that dot
in the closet direction of the sun WRT lens axis, you will get
maximum available polarization (remember, this effect varies
with the angles of the surfaces of objects, so this "dot"
method works best for the sky, and in general.
