Hi,

I have a question concerning this discussion because of my weak English.
What was originally meant by "discern focus to the depth of one human hair
at 3 feet" ? Does this mean you can focus within the depth of the human
hair at 3 feet, or does it mean you can focus at a single hair in 3 feet.
The latter seems to be not very astonishing. Of course, in principle the
greater the metering base, the better the metering, but I think it should
be possible to focus a human hair in 3 feet distance with the split image
of a SLR focusing screen, too. There is a further point to consider: You
can see a hair if it is far below the resolution of your eyes, if the hair
is bright illuminated in front of a darker background. This is the
principle of the dark field and the ultra microscopy. In dark field, you
can see things beyond the resolution of the microscope, but you can't see
its shape. The shape of a human hair at a greater distance is not so
interesting you will miss it, but you still see and know, that it is a long
subject (you probably think, that you see this hair sharp, because you know
very well how a single hair looks like).
