It was first mentioned as available in January, 1987 and last mentioned in
official literature October, 1992. The scarcity is most likely due to 1)
introduction concurrent with the shift in interest to autofocus, thus leading
to low sales quantities, and 2) a relatively high price (grey market = $433US,
adj. for 1998 dollars).
I'd be reluctant to use it on a tripod without a winder or motor drive to
increase the mass of the OM body and reduce harmonic vibrations. It has no
removable tripod mount like the 85-250mm f/5, making for a rather front heavy
combination.
