If you are using color neg., try asking the lab for a darker print.
Also, search for the "vampire(s)" thread from last year. Olympus TTL
still requires some thought process (exposure compensation) when trying
to expose faces in dark places. Your 2S/T20 is actually behaving in the
only way it knows how.
Since the T20 can't bounce, I would try and arrange your subjects closer
to some kind of neutral background like a wall, curtain or vegetation.
You could also place a slaved flash somewhere with its own thyristor set
for about 1 more stop than your lens.
