Well in the mid stop ranges where we start talking bokeh, the shape is certainly
different.  I've never looked at so many little hexagons (occasionally slightly
lopsided - tired diaphraphm?) and octagons in my life.  Tightly stopped they
mostly look like perfect straight sided polygons, moderately near wide open
those "polygons" are edged with curves, one stop below wide open, on at least
some lenses (e.g. 100/2) you get "curvier" shapes with little hitches.
