I've been testing the new OM-2 I acquired with the manual/auto
shutter speed problem. To duplicate the problem I need to leave the
camera with the lens cap on, switch set to off, over night. Then if
I set the switch to manual, with lens cap still on, the camera will
always fire in the auto mode, that is, the shutter will stay open.
If I remove the lens cap the shutter will close. If I replace the
cap immediately the shutter will stay open again on the next shot.
However, if I remove the lens cap and point the camera at a bright
light the problem is 'fixed' and the camera works normally (although
the slower shutter speeds seem to be fast). Removing the batteries
and setting the speed to B for 30 - 60 seconds makes the camera work
normally in manual, with the shutter speeds sounding like normal
speeds.
I suspect a leaky part (capacitor?) but not having seen a schematic
of the camera I really haven't a clue.
The camera seems to be in excellent condition except for this problem.
Anyone ever see this problem? John?
Thanks all, Tom.
