(And also make sure it follows the Nikon standard of pitch on the right,
roll on the left... :-)
(I see absolutely no reason to make it electronic. Just stick some tiny
spirit levels on the edge of the viewfinder. I can't find the "off" switch
on any of my levels, although in practical use, their "blinking" hasn't
been objectionable. :-)
Actually, I have a tiny, fluid-filled compass that just fills the round
part of the winding lever. I'd like to find the manufacturer. If they could
simply etch a tiny circle above axis of the compass, it would fill THREE
needs -- a level, a compass, and a nifty CLA patch! (The cap on this lever
is destroyed in a CLA, and is typically replaced with a circle of
sticky-backed plastic.)
The compass is handy in pan photography. I have a Bogen 3270 gear-head with
pan calibrations, but the sucker weighs four pounds, and I often leave it
home. With the compass, I can make precision overlaps when panning.
(It is also handy for getting out of the woods when you've gotten so
carried away with photography that you've forgotten where you went... :-)
