I just wanted to add that if indeed the inner coatings had been affected you
could take the lens elements to a local independent optician and have him send
them to be stripped and re-coated. Occasionally we run up on a coating that is
difficult to remove, but for the most part they come clean and can be re-
coated (any scratches are emphasized, however, so only attempt this on a
scratch-free lens). And try to convince the optician not to put a huge mark-up
on the coating..suggested retail on a "quality" coating (Silor, Zeiss, etc) is
$60 per pair of lenses.....lessor secondary labs that do coatings (Hue is one)
retail for less...generally as low as $45 per pair of lenses...

while the type of coating may differ from the original, it's
a) bound to be better than a worm-eaten coating in there
b) worth it if you got the lens for a really low price, and
c) even if it is a different color coating (some green, some purple, etc)
it'll be anti-reflective...

trick is finding an optician that'll do it for less than he normally does his
glasses...like one you have patronized for years or taken your family to for
years... (we tend to look more kindly on those folk than those that walk in
the door with drug store or Walmart glasses) :=)
